CUSTOMER OF THE MONTH MAY 2019: STRAW HAT IN ANGUILLA

Peter and Ann Parles have been entrenched in the Anguilla community for over 23 years. When Peter visited Anguilla in 1996 he decided relocation from corporate America was going to become a reality!  He learned that a restaurant was up for sale and Straw Hat emerged.  Until October 2008 they were located in the Forest but moved to the spectacular site on Meads Bay, one of the top beaches on Anguilla.  With a staff of 46 employees, Straw Hat is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, where you can dine with a view enjoying the great views, fantastic food and cool breezes.  “I want customers to make Straw Hat a part of the Anguilla experience.  Great food, good people and a great experience.”

What is totally amazing about this restaurant, in addition to the location, is the extensive menu offerings created by Chef Ralph who brings unique and eclectic tastes to their menu. For breakfast enjoy pancakes, French bread French toast or one of many omelets such as the Spanish Frittata, an open faced omelet with chorizo sausage, roasted peppers, potato and cheddar cheese, or the Scallion Potato Pancake & Poached Eggs served with pesto hollandaise and Applewood smoked bacon.   Their Lunch menu has various salads in addition to the Straw Hat Certified Angus Beef Burger, the Pastrami Reuben, the West Indian Veggie Burger or the Anguillian Cubano with spicy shredded braised pork, cucumber, green apple slaw and mole served on a French Baguette.  If you dine for dinner, try one of the daily specials or enjoy a lighter fare with Straw Hat Spring Rolls, the Big Eye Tuna Flatbread, or Asian Salad.  If you want to experience a more local flavor, try the Grilled Local Crayfish, Grilled Anguillian Lobster, Curried Goat, or the Prawns Steeped in Red Curry.   Be sure to check out their full menu offerings at www.strawhat.com.

Straw hat is available for beach front weddings and receptions as well as corporate events or special occasions. What makes Straw Hat unique?  According to Peter, “Straw Hat is community oriented.  We sponsor many events, sports teams, and school projects.  It’s important to give back and assist the community.”  When asked about the hurricanes in 2017, Peter states “The restaurant was badly trashed and damaged.  With all hands on deck we were able to reopen in four months.”  In addition to their website, you can follow Straw Hat on Facebook at Straw Hat Restaurant or on Twitter @StrawHatAXA.
